Why are some Christian bands heavy-speed-metal-thrash? Which ones are really Christian?

Posted on August 23rd, 2010 by The Militia in Thrash Metal

Have you heard of any Christian heavy-speed-metal-thrash-bands? Can you tell which of them are really Christians? Do you know any of these bands? Just wondering your thoughts and do you consider yourself a Christian and do you
like heavy-speed-metal-Christian thrash-bands?

thanks.

EDIT: Godly worship music was defined in the Old Testament, wasn’t it? God laid down the rules for Godly worship music in the book of Psalms, right? yes, I know he said, "Praise the Lord with the cymbal." But where did he say it’s OK play heavey-metal-speed-thrash? God had specific guidelines. The music has to respect God.

I mean, like this. . . . are you gonna say if four dudes play Christian music onstage in only their underwear, would that be Christian?

Does that make sense? Could someone articulate the issue better than I could?

thank you

…… or let’s say, four Christian dudes get up onstage and scream and scrawl their fingers across a chalkboard creepy and play bongos really loud and creepy? would that be Christian?

Is it Blasphemy for a Metal-Head to say that the NWOBHM largely SUCKED?

Posted on June 20th, 2010 by The Militia in Speed Metal

Make no mistake.. it was important, it influenced a lot of the Metal Scene, and there WERE some great bands like Diamond Head, Iron Maiden and WitchFinder General in it……

Nay, my beef is with all the other bands, like Raven, that I want to like.. but then the screeching, womanly, gelded cat in too-tight spandex Robert Plant wannabe vocals kick in and I want to rip my ears off! You can be listening to Blazing Speed Metal, or Sludgy Doomy stuff… and the same boring, bad effeminate vocals kick in…… AAAAGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I am not even saying they needed harsh Vox or anything… I mean, I love Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford and the like.. they all were high pitched and clean singers.. but they injected some testosterone into their sound at least, darn it!

MQ- Preferred decade fro Metal ( 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s)?
MQ2- Preferred Vocals, Clean, Harsh, Growl, Shriek, High Pitched, Low Pitched, etc?
MQ3- Favorite NWOBHM Band NOT named Iron Maiden?

BQ- Worst affront to Metal….. Big Hair, Spandex or Neutered Cat vocals?
@Fenris Wolf.. all good points… though as an old school MetalHead.. I actually have discovered IMO a HUGE amount of fantastic Metal once you get past the Mainstream and Metalcore stuff. I have a monster collection of positively METAlL, clean, brutal, and everything in between. I try to feature it in a series of Qs called Modern Metal Masterpieces. Plus… Modern Thrash is getting to be just about as awesome as it was in the late 80s.
Dude…. thank you. I thought I was the only one who did not "get" Opeth. Personally I find them boring as heck……..
well..here are 2 questions with bands I am currently digging….

and while it is an eclectic mix.. feel free to poke through my Youtube….

http://www.youtube.com/user/killerpeaches7

got pretty much all sorts of metal..and a few other things mixed in.
***And not to be too picky, but Judas Priest, technically was not NWOBHM… they had been putting out killer music long before then.
@Adam.. I dunno if you just feel the need to try to be contrary, or if you just only read part of what I am saying these days…..
Everyone of them could be awesome.. then the singer opens his mouth.. …
Were there a FEW bands that didn’t have lousy vocals? Yeah.. but we are talking less than 10%. And these are all bands I have WANTED to like since the 80s… ain’t like how many of the modern generation comes in with preformed opinions of "old" music.. this stuff was CURRENT when I tried to get into it!
Blitzkrieg ( great music.. vocals are WEEEEAAAAAAKKKKKKKK )

Angel Witch

Tygers of Pan Tang

Raven

Tytan

Vardis

Witchfynde

Persian Risk

White Spirit (sounds like POP music.. heck and they have Janick Gers playing for them! I love Janick!)

Classic Heavy Metal REPLAY of the Day (part 7)?

Posted on June 16th, 2010 by The Militia in Speed Metal

Just a stroll back in time for old school Metalheads, and a chance for the new generation to come to appreciate what came before:

Today’s feature will be on the debut album from a very special, and yet hardly spoken of band:

HOLY MOSES – (Deu) – Queen of Siam (1986)

Holy Moses – Necropolis

Holy Moses – Devil’s Dancer

Holy Moses – Dear Little Friend

There are a few things that make this band and album stand out. While with a release date of 1986, Holy Moses may seem to have arrived a little late to the Thrash Scene, they had been making Thrash/Speed Metal since 1980, and had released 8 Demos and 1 Split Album in that time. So this marks them as one of the earliest true Thrash bands, predating even most of the Big 4. Also.. as of 1981.. long before this modern generation heard of Angela Gossow, they had a harsh female vocalist named Sabina Classen, who to this day seems to get little credit for her role in pioneering Extreme Metal.

MQ- Thoughts and Opinions on the tracks/album?
MQ2- How many of you had heard of this band, or knew that Sabina has been doing the female extreme vocals thing no for 29 years?
MQ3- Favorite German Thrash band?

BQ- and just for variety to show you what she is doing nowadays:
Holy Moses – End of Time (2005 Strength Power Will Passion )

Thoughts and opinions?

What does Sabina think about all this?

PS- you are welcome Tron. =P
Also… I was thinking.. at least with my long term regular contacts.. if you want to be kept abreast of my various Metal finds.. I was thinking about making a mass email list.. if you are interested.. send me your non-Y!A email address… I will keep them totally private… And be happy to reciprocate… I hate missing cool Qs from my contacts!

Classic Heavy Metal REPLAY of the Day (part 4)?

Posted on June 14th, 2010 by The Militia in Speed Metal

Just a stroll back in time for old school Metalheads, and a chance for the new generation to come to appreciate what came before:

CIRITH UNGOL – Black Machine

taken from 1984’s "King of the Dead". This album is notable for being the band’s favorite… and the one most ridiculed by the music critics fo the era, whose major complaints were the "Muddy Production" and lack of "Hooks". In other words… it was Doom Metal, not GLAM, but the average critic of the day pretty much had their head firmly lodged in their butts.

MQ- Thoughts and opinions of the song?
MQ2- How many of us were even listening to Metal in 1985?
MQ3- For the Metal old timers…. was their ever a point where you gave up on NEW Metal?
For the Younger ones.. how many of you actually really have looked into Early Heavy Metal?

BQ- Genres pre-1985 in Metal, vs Genres NOW in Metal… what the HECK happened.
(In 1985, you had Heavy Metal, Doom Metal, Thrash/Speed Metal and GLAM ..if you consider it Metal and not tarted up Hard Rock….. Black, Power and Death Metal really were not "Genres" as yet, though forming. Back then no one used those terms though, basically. Now….. I mean I understand SOME of the Genre distinctions fro today… but Blackened Symphonic Folk Avante Garde Doom Nintedcore? REALLY????)

BQ2- Should I include GLAM bands in my replays? I have nothing against them, I just personally consider GLAM to be Hard rock, not metal. Reckon I don’t wanna short change folks, so if enough want it, I’ll include it
also..I think I stuttered.. this should be Classic Heavy Metal Replay (part 5), not 4.
@Shred Doctor.. well go look it up in your browser history, darn it! =P Do you even remember which pic?
