Which is better for playing heavy riffs and solos? Boss Metal Zone Or Metal Core?

Posted on August 8th, 2010 by The Militia in Thrash Metal

Im searching for a extremely thick sounding distortion, like really in your face kinda distortion. Also I want one which helps in squealing out pinch harmonics too. Oh yeh I also need massive gains for solos too… the gain that will pass through two bass guitar n a drum!

The Genres I play are mainly Thrash metal, death metal, black metal and grindcore.

What are the different types of metal?

Posted on August 3rd, 2010 by The Militia in Thrash Metal

I don’t listen to a ton of metal, but there seem to be a lot of different types and I’m interested to know what they are. I’ve heard of thrash metal, heavy metal, death metal, and black metal, and I’m sure there’s more. Does someone mind explaining the different types and their characteristics, and maybe give some examples?

Thanks. =)

black/death/thrash/grind metal?

Posted on July 1st, 2010 by The Militia in Thrash Metal

I’m very surprised at the lack of discussion on here about metal. This post is to open anything anyone wants to say, hopefully some people will read this and start getting interested. I’ll go ahead and name a very few amount of bands I think anyone who listens/wants to listen to metal needs to listen to! I’ll name good ones from a few different genre’s.

Emperor/Dissection/Bathory – Black Metal
Death/Repugnant/Orgin – Death Metal
Kreator/Defiance/Vio-lence/Razor – Thrash Metal
Anal Secretion/Carcass/Phobia – Grind

Leave good band! (please don’t talk about korn or atreyu or whatever, this is for real metal).

Can Metal music become depressing?

Posted on June 14th, 2010 by The Militia in Gothic Metal

I’m a big fan of Metal music. I have a lot of Metal albums. But I have noticed that when I listen to the darker Metal, I feel kind of depressed. Has anyone experienced this?

I love the lighter side of Metal music ( such as Progressive, Heavy, Epic, Symphonic, Viking, Pagan, Celtic, Gothic Metal). Recently, I have been listening to the darker side of Metal ( Death, Black ) and I feel it is somewhat depressing. I have noticed this drastic change since I love listening to Classic Rock also. Classic Rock really enhances your soul and makes you happy!

All Metal bands I listen to are from Europe. Nothing like Metallica or Slayer (by the way, I don’t like Thrash Metal). Many European bands are really dark.

I think Metal music can be depressing depending on the subgenre you listen to. It happens to me. What do you think? Have you experienced this?
Metal music is great. But maybe it’s the darkness that makes it great? Definitely Darker Metal is a big NO for me!

What do you think?

Are a lot of metal albums concept albums? Or do I just seem to stumble upon them?

Posted on June 14th, 2010 by The Militia in Gothic Metal

I’ve been into metal for a little while now, and I mean power metal, progressive metal, gothic metal, black metal, death metal some. But in reading and in actual albums I’ve noticed a lot are concept albums. I found this out through Yahoo Launch, just looking at the rest of the songs on an album and they turned out to be on a concept album. But I ask this question because the last three metal albums that I’ve heard in full are concept albums. Those are Opeth’s Still Life, Cradle of Filth’s Cruelty and the Beast, and Nightwish’s Century Child. I was just wondering if is a common concpet among the not so well known genres of metal.
I probably shouldve have said this, when I was listing off the genres I wasnt putting the three bands i listed into a particular genre or sub genre i was just stating the particular genres that ive heard concept albums in. Oh and btw Pink Floyd, I know of the concept albums, Darkside of the Moon, The Wall, and even The Final Cut, (Best band in the world, from 1967 to now) but yea, thats what i was stating.

why does everyone say that "core" or "nu metal" bands arent real metal?

Posted on June 4th, 2010 by The Militia in Nu Metal

seriously i mean i love death metal and that stuff but it doesnt mean its the best, but "Core" stuff and "nu metal" arent my favs.

BQ: Should i get rid of my A7X and BFMV albums?
BQ2: whats your fav metal subgenre?
BQ3: most hated metal band in your opinion

and if youre wondering why im asking dis is because im a die-hard metalhead and ive been told to "get rid of that crap" and to "start listening to "real" metal"
"real metal" (as people say) is thrash metal, black metal, death metal, etc.

Whats the differnce between metal subgenres?

Posted on May 21st, 2010 by The Militia in Gothic Metal

As in black metal, death metal, metalcore, nu metal, symphonic metal, gothic metal, etc.

For example what you you peg these bands (some of my favorites) as?:

Opeth
The Sins of Thy Beloved
Rhapsody
Arch Enemy
Straight Line Stitch
Dream Evil
Dimmu Borgir
Stream of Passion
Therion
Moonspell
Nekrogoblikon
Faun
Diablo Swing Orchestra

This has always puzzled me so if you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
