A woman is reported to have fallen 137 ft from a building, landing on a metal ventilator box…?
Posted on June 21st, 2010 by The Militia in Speed MetalA woman is reported to have fallen 137 ft from a building, landing on a metal ventilator box, which she crushed to a depth of 30 in. She suffered only minor injuries.
(a) Neglecting air resistance, calculate the speed of the woman just before she collided with the ventilator box.
in ft/s
(b) Calculate her average acceleration while in contact with the box.
in ft/s2
(c) Calculate the time it took to crush the box.
in seconds

(a)
v2^2 – v1^2 = 2as
v1 is assumed to be 0
v2^2 = 2*137*32.2 ft^2/s^2
v = 93.92976 fps
(b)
a = v2^2/(2*2.5) ft/s^2
a = 1,764.56 ft/s^2 = 54.8 G’s
(c)
1,764.56t = 93.92976
t = 53.231 ms
The woman must have been Supergirl.

(A)mgh=.5mv*v
V*V=20*46
v=30
