questions about Gothic Band?
Posted on June 16th, 2010 by The Militia in Gothic MetalI have 2 questions related to Gothic Band :
1. Why isn’t Evanescence being categorized as Gothic band? Yet it’s categorized as Alternative band. I think Their style and music similar to Within Temptation and Epica.
2. What is the different between Gothic Metal, Gothic Rock and Death Metal?
Well guys, I don’t care about why they named Goth Metal or Goth Rock. but could you more specific. Maybe about their music style, instruments, etc?

Gothic stuff is for those that stayed introverted beyond their teen years.
Death Metal is much different. I.e., Morbid Angel, Cannibal Corpse and Obituary

1. Because Evanescence isn’t truly a Goth band. They’re more of a "goth-inspired" band.
2. Gothic Metal: Gothic music meets Heavy Metal. Gothic Rock: Again, goth meets rock. Death Metal: Bust-your-head-banging-music that has little to do with goth, really.

Goth rock isn’t related to metal. It came out of the English post-punk boom. Joy Division is arguably the precursor to goth rock, but Bauhaus is usually considered the first *true* goth band. Of course, the genre itself changed too. Bauhaus was still knee-deep in the Joy Division post-punk, but by the mid-80s stuff like The Sisters of Mercy and their synth-heavy ilk became the more prominent voice in the goth genre. That reflects the general sense of traditional goth rock. Evanescence has far more in common structurally with the post-grunge stuff of the 90s. Also, if you listen to the earlier Within Temptation stuff with the gruff death vocals along with the sirenesque vocals, that’s usually what’s considered gothic metal, which is completely unrelated to goth rock. It’s gothic in the sense of medieval castles and such, with the mood it generates.
