What are the greatest gothic songs/bands?
Posted on April 30th, 2010 by The Militia in Gothic MetalI am curious to find more music in the gothic genre. Not exactly metal. I might be uninformed, but I do believe the two are very different. So goth music. Perhaps songs and bands that are familiar with and sound like the songs featured on the movie Queen of the Damned? Kindeytheives, David Draiman, Static X, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Genutortures, Papa Roach…..?

Actually none of the bands you listed are goth. Kidneythieves, Static-X, and Genitorturers are industrial. Marilyn Manson and Korn have quite a few industrial elements too.
Here’s some industrial bands that are fairly similar to the ones you listed:
Nine Inch Nails
Stabbing Westward
Dope
Ministry
KMFDM
Gravity Kills
Godhead
16volt
Snake River Conspiracy
Econoline Crush
Mindless Faith
Flesh Field
Orgy
etc..
Here’s some goth/darkwave bands:
London After Midnight
The Cruxshadows
Clan of Xymox
Bauhaus
Christian Death
The Sisters of Mercy
Switchblade Symphony
Type O Negative
The Cure
etc…

Yeah, as said, the bands you have listed aren’t goth at all.
And for the greatest goth bands, the classic, more well-known ones include bands like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Mission UK, Alien Sex Fiend, Specimen, Virgin Prunes, Christian Death, and 45 Grave.
I will tell you though, those bands don’t sound anything like the bands you listed. Actually the bands I listed include a variety of goth music, for example, Specimen has a glam influence and is part of the subgenre within goth called batcave, whereas 45 Grave for example is more punk sounding and is part of the subgenre called deathrock.

Those aren’t goth. Goth is Sisters of Mercy, Siouxie and the Banshees, Alien Sex Fiend, and post-punk bands like Joy Division.
